Spring Hill College to present "The Rimers of Eldritch" Nov. 18-21

MOBILE, Ala. – Spring Hill College’s Department of Fine and Performing Arts will present “The Rimers of Eldritch” by Lanford Wilson Nov. 18-21, 2010 at the Arlene Mitchell Theater on campus.  Performances begin at 8 p.m.

Rev. Greg Lucey, S.J., to give "Last Lecture" Nov. 22

MOBILE, Ala. – Former Spring Hill College president Rev. Gregory F. Lucey, S.J., will give his Last Lecture at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 22 in Byrne Memorial Hall on campus. The program is sponsored by Alpha Sigma Nu, the Jesuit student honor society, and is free and open to the public.

"Beauty/Disillusion" and "Cereviscera" art exhibitions by MLA students set for Nov. 8 – Dec. 3

MOBILE, Ala. – The Spring Hill College Master of Liberal Arts program will host the capstone art shows of two MLA students, Lydia Harsany Host and Donan Klooz. The exhibitions, “Beauty/Disillusion” by Host and “Cereviscera” by Klooz, will be on display Nov. 8 – Dec. 3 in the Eichold and Bedsole Galleries in the Fine and Performing Arts Center. The exhibits are the culminating projects for the Master of Liberal Arts degree with a concentration in fine art.

Rev. Larry Gillick, S.J., to present Christus Theological Institute lecture Nov. 18

MOBILE, Ala. – Rev. Larry Gillick, S.J., director of the Deglman Center for Ignatian Spirituality at Creighton University, will give the Christus Theological Institute’s lecture at 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 18 in Byrne Memorial Hall on the Spring Hill College campus. The title of his talk is “The Spiritual Exercises: Confrontation with Shame and Invitation to Honor.”

Alumnus Skip Viragh’s gift continues to support Spring Hill College and the game he loved

MOBILE, Ala. – Skip Viragh made sure his gift to Spring Hill College was one that keeps on giving.

Albert P. “Skip” Viragh ’64 loved Spring Hill College. He was also a gifted entrepreneur, became an expert in investment management, and founded the Rydex Fund Group, one of the nation’s most successful mutual fund families in the industry. Viragh also became the greatest benefactor in the college’s history and established an athletic scholarship fund in 2000. He died in 2003 of pancreatic cancer.

Historian Donald Miller to speak at Spring Hill College Nov. 17

MOBILE, Ala. – Dr. Donald L. Miller, professor of history at Lafayette College, will present the 30th annual Portier Lecture at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 17 in Byrne Memorial Hall at Spring Hill College. His topic will be: “Does Bombing Work? The Lessons of Dresden.”

Gulf Coast Technology Council Scholarships go to SHC seniors

MOBILE, Ala. – Two Spring Hill College seniors have been awarded scholarships from the Gulf Coast Technology Council.  David Mullek, an applied mathematics major from Robertsdale, Ala., received a $2,000 award; and Kyle Bradford, a finance/economics and computer information systems major from New Orleans, received $1,000.

Mullek is completing an internship with NASA. Bradford serves as a tutor for economics and computer information systems majors at SHC.

Creagan Concert Series features E=Duos2 Nov. 4

Mobile, Ala. – The Spring Hill College Department of Fine and Performing Arts will present E=Duos2 on Thursday, Nov. 4 as part of the Creagan Concert Series for 2010-2011.  E=Duos2 features Enen Yu, violin; Guo Sheng Huang, cello; Annette Heim, flute; and Bret Heim, guitar.

They group will present selections from Nicolo Paganini, J.J. Dotzauer, Luigi Legnani, Joaquin Homes, Felix Mendelssohn and Stephen Dodgson.
 The concert begins at 7:30 p.m. in the Eichold Gallery in the Fine and Performing Arts Center.  Admission: $10.00, students, $5.00.

"Dig Pink" volleyball event on Oct. 23 to raise breast cancer awareness

The Spring Hill College volleyball team (20-2) will return home to the Arthur R. Outlaw Recreation Center on Saturday, Oct. 23, to host its “Dig Pink” event to raise awareness for the prevention of and battle against breast cancer during the squad’s 3 p.m. conference match versus Belhaven University.

Film on ideologies of hate to be shown Oct. 26

Mobile, Ala. – The Spring Hill College Center for Student Involvement, Campus Ministry and the Multicultural Student Union, in cooperation with Mobile’s Quest for Social Justice, will present the film “The Anatomy of Hate: A Dialogue for Hope” at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 26 in Byrne Memorial Hall on campus. In addition to a screening of the documentary, the film’s director, Mike Ramsdell, will be present for interactive discussion of the film.
