SHC men’s basketball teaches basics at Little Flower

MOBILE, Ala. – The Spring Hill College men’s basketball recently taught basic basketball skills to the boys and girls of Little Flower Catholic School through its “Ballin’ Badgers” program under the direction of assistant coach Brian Murphy and student assistant senior John Redman from Spanish Fort.

Junior Alex Looney of Mobile, sophomore Robert Drummond of Fairhope and freshman Quinton Campbell of Wilmer joined The Badger (a.k.a. Chris Portie) in instructing the newest Badger fans in the fundamentals of dribbling, shooting and defense.

Spring Hill College to apply for NCAA membership, join new athletic conference

MOBILE, Ala. -- Spring Hill College President Rev. Richard P. Salmi, S.J., announced today that Spring Hill College has accepted an invitation to join the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) and intends to apply for NCAA Division II membership in spring 2013.

Spring Hill has been a member of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) since 1959. The decision to switch national and conference affiliations comes after nearly two years of study and planning concerning the future of the Badger athletic program.

Outlaw Recreation Center honored by Exchange Club

Outlaw Recreation Center on the campus of Spring Hill College was honored by the Mobile Chapter of the National Exchange Club with the annual “So Proudly We Hail” Award for properly displaying the flag of the United States of America in accordance with US Flag Code.

MOBILE, Ala. – Spring Hill College Director of Athletics Jim Hall has announced that the college’s rapidly growing athletics program will add co-educational competitive cheerleading as its 16th varsity sport beginning in fall of 2013. In conjunction with the addition of competitive cheer, sideline cheerleading and dance will be elevated from their current club sport statuses to scholarship programs.

Spring Hill tabs McVey to build Track and Field programs

MOBILE, Ala. – Spring Hill College Athletic Director Jim Hall has announced the hiring of Craig McVey as the head coach of the Badger men’s and women’s outdoor track & field programs that will open their premier seasons in the spring of 2013. McVey comes to Spring Hill after enjoying 15 years as the associate head track & field coach at the University of Albany where he was part of 28 America East Conference (AEC) championships and three Intercollegiate Association of Amateur Athletes of America (IC4A) titles
