Admission to Graduate Nursing
General admission requirements for all tracks
Admission to the Master of Science in Nursing program is open to all qualified men and women without regard to race, color, age, sex, or creed. The applicant must:
- Hold a RN license in the state where he or she practices nursing
- Have a minimum of one year of clinical experience
- Currently work in a clinical setting or have access to a health care facility for clinical integration and research
- And meet the admissions criteria listed below that are appropriate for the academic degree that he or she holds
Applicants should complete the admission process one month prior to the intended term of entry. The admissions process for all application categories requires official transcripts (from all colleges/universities previously attended, mailed directly to the Office of Graduate & Continuing Studies by the appropriate registrar; three written references, employer verification form; a resume; and a statement of intent (explaining how becoming a CNL will help you achieve your personal and professional goals). RN with Bachelor of Science in Nursing to MSN Program
Applicants holding a BSN degree follow general and academic admission requirements as outlined.
RN with Non-Nursing Baccalaureate
Applicants with a RN license and a non-nursing baccalaureate will be admitted as a non-degree graduate student to complete the five RN to MSN nursing bridge courses before advancing to graduate degree status in the Master of Science in Nursing. In all cases, applicants must meet the general admission criteria listed above.
RN with Master’s Degree in Nursing
For unconditional admission, MSN applicants for the Post-Master’s Certificate must meet the general admission requirements and have a minimum GPA of 3.0 from a regionally accredited institution.
RN with Associate Degree/Diploma to MSN Program
RN applicants with an associate degree in nursing or diploma in nursing will be accepted in a graduate non-degree status to complete the general education requirements and the five RN to MSN nursing bridge courses before advancing to graduate degree status in the MSN program.
Academic Admission Standards for all tracks
For unconditional admission, applicants for all tracks (listed above) must meet meet the general admission requirements and have a minimum GPA of 3.0 from a regionally accredited institution on their appropriate degree for the level at which they are applying to enter the program, i.e., MSN, BSN, ADN, or Diploma Nurse.
Applicants not meeting the requirements for unconditional admission may be offered conditional admission upon the recommendation of the graduate nursing faculty and the approval of the Provost. A grade point average of at least 2.75 on a 4.0 scale is required.
To attain full standing from conditional admission, i.e., progress beyond the first six hours of course work, the student must complete the first six hours of course work at Spring Hill College with at least a “B” average (3.0 on a 4.0 scale).
