Service, Faith & Justice Ministry

Justice and Service opportunities provide students the chance to open their eyes and hearts to the poor, the marginalized and suffering in our world. Reflection on the experience is a major component of every activity. It is how students learn to be agents of change in our world through acting as a community.

These trips are a time of service, immersion and reflection on the lives of the people and cultures of Central America.  Informational meetings take place each September for this year-long commitment.

Saturdays in Service

Twice a semester, service days are scheduled and all students, faculty and staff are invited to participate in work projects.  Past work has included painting, cleaning yards and cemeteries, and gutting houses damaged by hurricanes or fire.  We leave campus at 8:30 and return by 2:00 pm.  Food, transportation and tools are provided.

Justice & Mission Week

Spring Semester

During Justice & Mission Week we celebrate ways in which we as a college community, practice a "faith that does justice."  This event is meant to be both consciousness-raising and pro-active in highlighting how we live out our mission as a Jesuit College.

Christmas on the Hill

November & December 2010

A long-standing tradition, Christmas on the Hill centers on a campus-wide outreach effort coordinated through the Catholic Social Services Refugee Resettlement Office in Mobile.  Each residence hall on campus teams with faculty and staff to sponsor families who recently resettled in Mobile as political or economic refugees.  This support comes in the form of household items, food and clothing.  Families in the past have come from Bosnia, Cuba, Vietnam, Iran, the Sudan, Serbia, the Congo and Sierra Leone.
