Christmas on the Hill

Decenber 4, 2009

Beginning in September, students, faculty and staff begin planning Spring Hill College's annual Christmas celebration. The evening includes a Christmas dinner/party complete with carols, for the campus community.

Christmas on the Hill centers on a campus-wide outreach effort coordinated through the Catholic Social Services Refugee Resettlement Office in Mobile. A list of items to support the families is sent out from the refugee center to students faculty and staff.  Families in the past have come from Bosnia, Cuba, Vietnam, Iran, The Sudan, Serbia, The Congo and Sierra Leone.

Money raised by the college community is used to buy household and personal items to ease the resettlement process for the families. March for Life

Mardi Gras Break Immersion Trips

February 13-21, 2010

During Mardi Gras Break, five groups of 8-12 students and faculty/staff will  travel to international work sites in Belize, Guatemala, the Dominican Republic and El Salvador.

Students serve others building, painting, working in house belizeschools and day care centers and doing whatever is needed in the area they are visiting.  The experience challenges students to grow in their personal faith through immersion into the lives of the marginalized of the world. Funds for the trip are raised through end of the semester exam-a-grams, student fund-raising and through the generosity of donors and sponsors of Campus Ministry activities.

IFTJ 2007 Mass

The weekend concludes with a silent protest outside Fort Benning which honors the six Jesuit martyrs and their co-workers murdered in El Salvador and the thousands of innocent people who were victims of crimes committed by graduates of the U.S. Army training school.
