Spring Hill College mourns loss of trustee Andrew J. McLaughlin Jr. ’53

MOBILE — Spring Hill College is mourning the loss of trustee, former board chairman and alumnus Andrew J. McLaughlin Jr., who died Sept. 11 at age 74. 

McLaughlin graduated in 1953 with a Bachelor of Science in accounting. In 1990 he was the keynote speaker at the Spring Hill College Business Associates Luncheon. McLaughlin was inducted to the Spring Hill College Athletic Hall of Fame in 1997 for his achievements in basketball and baseball. He also served as honorary coach for the men’s basketball team during the 2000 season. 

Elected to the Spring Hill College Board of Trustees in 2000, McLaughlin invested in the college’s learning environment and was instrumental in the renovation of Quinlan Hall in 2003. Two of his grandchildren are current students at Spring Hill, sophomore David McLaughlin and freshman Patricia McLaughlin. 

McLaughlin was CEO of several New York Stock Exchange member firms until 1987. A certified public accountant, he then served as a tax and financial consultant to the John L. Loeb family in New York.
