MOBILE — Spring Hill College’s Christus Lecture Series will continue from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, March 22 in the Gautrelet Room on the college campus. Dr. Marchita Mauck, professor of art history at Louisiana State University, will present “From House Church to Mega Church: The Evolving Shape of the Spaces in Which We Worship.” The lecture is free for Christus members and $2 for guests.

In 1944 in a speech to the House of Commons about rebuilding the Palace of Westminster after its extensive war damage, Winston Churchill remarked, “We shape our dwellings, and afterwards our dwellings shape us.” This often quoted observation is especially appropriate with regard to houses of worship. This talk explores how churches have changed over time, and what difference this makes.

Mauck holds an M.A. in art history and a Ph.D. in medieval studies from Tulane University, and an M.A. in liturgy from Notre Dame. She is professor of art history at Louisiana State University and associate dean of the College of Art and Design. She has also served as visiting faculty at Notre Dame, Catholic Theological Union, and the Yale Institute of Sacred Music.

Use the Dauphin Street college entrance and bear right to the Administration Building/St. Joseph Chapel parking area. For more information or to become a Christus member, call the Spring Hill College Division of Philosophy and Theology at (251) 380-4660 or e-mail christus@shc.edu.
