Mobile, AL – Spring Hill College is pleased to announce the appointment of Robert E. Rivers III as the director of Spring Hill College in Atlanta.

Rivers, an Atlanta native, has worked in education, formation and liturgy programs with several parishes in the Archdiocese of Atlanta for more than seven years. He is a graduate of the Georgia Institute of Technology and St. Meinrad School of Theology in Indiana.

Spring Hill, the oldest college in Alabama and the third oldest of the Jesuit Catholic institutions in the U.S., has been offering graduate degrees and certificate programs in theological studies in Atlanta since 1997 in conjunction with the Archdiocese and Holy Spirit Catholic Church. The Summer Institute of Christian Spirituality, a special event comprised of two one-week sessions, was added in 2002 and is held each June at Ignatius Retreat House. Last year, the College opened a location in Norcross in order to further expand its offerings for the Atlanta community.

The newest program being offered in Atlanta, the Certificate in Ecclesial Ministry was designed to support ministry formation in the Archdiocese, providing a holistic formation for lay ecclesial ministers, as recommended by the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops (Co-Workers in the Vineyard of the Lord). It offers a basic foundation in Catholic theology, with undergraduate-credit courses, designed for anyone involved in some form of church ministry. The program is unique in that the curriculum is brought on-site to  local parishes.

Rivers also previously served with the College as an adjunct faculty member in the Ecclesial Ministry program. He may be contacted at (678) 924-1919 or rrivers@shc.edu.
