Spring Hill College to host Congressman Artur Davis’s “Poverty In Alabama: The New Civil Rights Struggle”
Mobile, Ala. – Spring Hill College will host Congressman Artur
Davis, who will present “Poverty In Alabama: The New Civil Rights
Struggle” on Jan. 10, 2008. The event is open to the public and will be
held at 7 p.m. in Byrne Memorial Hall on the Spring Hill College
campus. Davis represents Alabama’s Seventh Congressional District, a
twelve-county area that spans from Birmingham and Tuscaloosa to the
Davis, a Montgomery native, is in his third term in Congress. In December 2006, Davis was appointed to the House Ways and Means Committee, which oversees all major economic policy issues, including tax policy and healthcare, as well as the Medicare and Social Security entitlement programs.
Davis also sits on two additional committees: the Judiciary Committee, which covers areas ranging from constitutional law to immigration to the criminal and civil justice systems, and House Administration Committee, which establishes the nation’s election laws and oversees the day-to-day operations of the House of Representatives.
