Students to visit Italy during Holy Week
MOBILE – As part of Spring Hill College’s focus on global education, 10 students will have the opportunity to visit Italy during spring break March 19-29, which coincides with Holy Week.
The Rev. Mark Lewis, S.J., associate professor of history, already will be in Rome as one of 250 electors of the new superior general of the Society of Jesus. His history students will take advantage of the opportunity by touring Rome, Milan and Naples, exploring the history, culture and cuisine of the country.
Before the students arrive in Italy, Lewis says they will use distance-learning techniques in preparation for the trip. Then, they will spend Easter in Rome, where they will see the pope in St. Peter’s Square.
“The goal will be for them to appropriate some specific elements of
what they've seen as personal glimpses into the history of our Western
heritage,” Lewis says.
