Friends of the Spring Hill College Library Fall Event Set for Sept. 25
Mobile – The Friends of the Spring Hill College Library will launch its special event series at 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 25 at Stewartfield on the Spring Hill campus. The speaker is poet Maurice Gandy, who will present a brief overview of 20th century American poetry and its influence on his recently published work “The Calpocalypse: An Allegory in Verse.”
“The Calpocalypse evolved from my coming-of-age adventures in California during the 1960s: attending school, training in the Army,
residing in San Francisco, wandering from Shasta to San Diego, and experiencing northern Mexico,” says Gandy.
Gandy is a full-time literature and creative writing instructor at Bishop State Community College and an adjunct English instructor at the University of South Alabama. He has published numerous articles in literary journals and a volume of poetry,” An Uncharted Inch.”
The Friends’ 2008 literary series will continue on Wednesday, Nov. 12, featuring author Margaret P. Cunningham, whose short stories have won several national contests and have appeared in magazines and anthologies including five of the “Chicken Soup for the Soul” books.
