Nov. 11, 2008
Mobile – Spring Hill College will celebrate its Master of Liberal Arts (MLA) fine arts concentration with an art show and reception from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 20.
The show will feature the work of Leah Nichols, who recently completed the MLA program. The reception and art show will be held in the newly renovated Eichold Gallery in the Fine and Performing Arts Center on the Spring Hill campus.
Spring Hill has offered the MLA program since 1995. The fine arts concentration was added 1997. In 2007 additional faculty in the fine arts area were added to better serve the growing arts community in Mobile. Dr. Alex Landi, director of the MLA program, and the Rev. Stephen Campbell, S.J., department chair of fine and performing arts, worked together to add Pieter Favier and Wanda Sullivan to the program’s faculty last fall. Favier teaches ceramics and sculpture; and Sullivan teaches drawing, painting and printmaking. Tom Loehr, communications arts department chair, teaches cinema and photography; and Janden Richards and visiting Jesuit, Luis Blanco-Doring, S.J., teach graphic design, typography and color theory. Campbell teaches drama and directs the Spring Hill College theater department.
In addition to the fine arts concentration, students enrolled in the MLA program can also earn concentrations in literature, history, social science, and leadership and ethics. For more information about the MLA program, visit the SHC Web site,.
