Spring Hill College to present 'Great Expectations' April 23-26
March 15, 2009
MOBILE, Ala. – The Spring Hill College Department of Fine and Performing Arts will present Neil Bartlett’s adaptation of “Great Expectations” by Charles Dickens April 23-26. The play will be performed at 8 p.m. nightly in the Arlene Mitchell Theater.
“Great Expectations” traces the life of an orphan named Pip, beginning at age 7, from Christmas Eve 1812 to the winter of 1840. At the center of the novel is a complicated set of themes that can be simplified by the idea that the affection of love and loyalty of friendship are more important than aspirations for wealth and to a higher social class. Using only Charles Dickens' words and an ensemble of eight actors, Neil Bartlett's stage version of this much-loved classic novel brings its settings and characters to theatrical life.
Admission is $10 for adults; $5, students. For more information, contact the Department of Fine and Performing Arts at (251) 380-3855.
