Arroyo appointed rector of Spring Hill Jesuit community

MOBILE, Ala. – Jesuit Superior General Adolfo Nicolas has appointed the Rev. Edward B. “Ted” Arroyo, S.J., to serve as the next rector of the Jesuit community at Spring Hill College, effective July 31, 2009. Arroyo replaces the Rev. Stephen Campbell, S.J., who has served as rector since 2003.
Arroyo graduated from Spring Hill in 1967 and taught at SHC briefly in 1971-72 while completing his Ph.D. in sociology from Duke University. He holds a Master of Divinity and Master of Sacred Theology from Woodstock College at Union Theological Seminary. He returns to Spring Hill after serving as the founding executive director of the Jesuit Social Research Institute at Loyola University New Orleans.
Arroyo has held positions as associate academic dean at the Jesuit School of Theology at Berkeley, Calif.; editor of “Blueprint for Social Justice” at the Twomey Center for Peace through Justice at Loyola; Provincial Superior of the New Orleans Province of the Society of Jesus; rector of the Jesuit faculty and formation communities at Loyola New Orleans; professor of sociology at Loyola; and as a missionary with the Jesuits in Paraguay.
