First-Year Students participate in Common Reading Program
July 15, 2009
First-year students entering Spring Hill College this fall are reading “Hope in the Unseen: An American Odyssey from the Inner City to the Ivy League” by Ron Suskind as part of the college’s annual First-Year Common Reading Project.
"Hope in the Unseen" is the first book by author and journalist Suskind. The book is a biographical novel about the life of student Cedric Jennings through his last years in high school and first years in college. It details his life at an inner-city school in Washington, D.C., and on to Brown University.
The book portrays the problems of inner-city education systems and how students from these systems are affected throughout their lives.
Spring Hill first-year students will have the opportunity to hear from Cedric Jennings during SHC’s fall semester Opening Weekend on Sunday, Aug. 23.
