MOBILE, Ala. – Alpha Sigma Nu, the Jesuit honor society, is bringing the Last Lecture Series to Spring Hill College. Dr. Michael Kaffer, professor and chair of English, will present the inaugural lecture at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 11 in Byrne Memorial Hall.

The Last Lecture originated as a talk given to students at Carnegie Mellon University by Dr. Randy Pausch, a professor of computer science who was dying of pancreatic cancer. This extraordinary lecture, in which the professor opened up about his life, beliefs and struggles to students, resulted in an internationally best-selling book titled “The Last Lecture” that has inspired millions.

The first faculty speaker, Dr. Michael Kaffer, is one of Spring Hill’s most popular and respected professors. Rev. Richard P. Salmi, S.J., the 38th president of the college, will give his Last Lecture at 4:30 p.m. March 2 in Byrne Memorial Hall during Alpha Sigma Nu Week.
