Spring Hill College adds Graduate Certificate in Studio Art
June 7, 2010
Mobile – Spring Hill College will begin offering a graduate-level certificate in studio art this fall as a part of its Master of Liberal Arts (MLA) program.
The studio art certificate program allows students to achieve a new level of skill in their selected area of study in the arts. The curriculum facilitates conceptual and technical development through studio practice and is designed for students who have achieved a level of proficiency in studio art and who desire to refine their personal focus through painting and other media.
Students will clarify and further develop a conceptual basis for a cohesive body of work that is authentic and reflects their own artistic voice. Areas of study that are available include: painting, printmaking, drawing, ceramics, sculpture and photography.
“With the level of growth being experienced both locally and regionally in the arts community, Spring Hill recognized the importance of being able to contribute to continued growth by offering a program which would be beneficial to those working professionally in the arts and those looking for a structured environment to further develop and refine their skill level,” said Dr. Alex Landi, MLA program director. “We’ve offered the fine arts concentration as a part of our Master of Liberal Arts program for the past several years, but we wanted to develop a program that would be more attractive to the person principally interested in studying art.”
In addition to the Certificate in Studio Art and the fine art concentration, students enrolled in the MLA program can also earn concentrations in literature, history and social science, and leadership and ethics. A graduate certificate in leadership and ethics is also available.
