Faculty and staff to participate in "service day" July 29
July 2, 2010
Mobile, Ala. – Spring Hill College faculty and staff will participate in a special community “service day” Thursday, July 29, 2010.
The day honors St. Ignatius Loyola, the founder of the Society of Jesus (the Jesuits). Ignatius directed the Jesuits to be “leaders in service to others,” and Spring Hill College’s mission is to “form students to become responsible leaders in service to others.” The college is celebrating its 180th year, continuing the 450-year-old Jesuit Catholic tradition of educational excellence.
“The service day is an opportunity for Spring Hill College employees to work together in a common service project and make an impact on our local community,” said Dr. Samantha Church, assistant to the vice president for advancement and chair of the college’s staff advisory committee.
Spring Hill employees will volunteer at six Mobile locations for the day: Mobile Area Food Bank, Mobile Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA), Habitat for Humanity, Mobile Association for Retarded Citizens (MARC), Little Flower Catholic School, and the Little Sisters of the Poor.
