Chemistry Club and Math Club to participate in Girls Exploring Math and Science Oct. 23

Fri, 10/01/2010 (All day)

MOBILE, Ala. – The Chemistry Club and the Math Club at Spring Hill College will participate in a community service project from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 23 at the University of South Alabama Student Center.

Girls Exploring Math and Science (GEMS) was established by the University of South Alabama Women in Science Organization to encourage middle school girls to continue an interest in these subjects as they progress in their education. The fun-filled and educational day provides hands-on-activities directed by professionals and assisted by college students. All workshops are designed to be age-related and engaging to encourage problem solving and self-confidence in the sciences.

Approximately 350 middle school girls will attend three hands-on workshops in areas of math and science, including chemistry, biology, physics, mathematics, engineering and astronomy. The Spring Hill College Chemistry Club and Math Clubs will each sponsor a workshop and offer it during the three sessions.
