Rev. Greg Lucey, S.J., to give "Last Lecture" Nov. 22
MOBILE, Ala. – Former Spring Hill College president Rev. Gregory F. Lucey, S.J., will give his Last Lecture at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 22 in Byrne Memorial Hall on campus. The program is sponsored by Alpha Sigma Nu, the Jesuit student honor society, and is free and open to the public.
The Last Lecture originated as a talk given to students at Carnegie Mellon University by Dr. Randy Pausch, a professor of computer science who was dying of pancreatic cancer. This extraordinary lecture, in which the professor opened up about his life, beliefs and struggles to students, resulted in an internationally best-selling book titled “The Last Lecture.”
Lucey, 77, was Spring Hill’s 37th president and retired from the college on June 1, 2009, after serving as the college’s CEO for 12 years.
He will join the staff of the Association of Jesuit Colleges and Universities (AJCU) on Jan. 1, 2011, and will succeed Rev. Charles Currie, S.J., as the president of AJCU beginning July 1, 2011. AJCU promotes numerous collaborative efforts among the 28 Jesuit colleges and universities, represents the schools in Congress and with the Federal Government, Jesuit and Church officials, and other higher education associations. The offices are located in Washington, D.C.
