Spring Hill College’s Cao Named to All-America Team
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Spring Hill College’s junior right side hitter Yiting Cao of Shanghai, China, was named to the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA 2010 Tachikara-NAIA Volleyball All-America 3rd Team, as selected by the NAIA Volleyball All-America Selection Committee.
In her first season at SHC after transferring from Illinois Central College, Cao finished first in the SSAC in kills per set with a 4.60 average for a season’s total of 451, first in attack percentage at .368, and second in services aces per set with a total of 57 and a .58 average. Her totals ranked fifth in the NAIA in kills per set, 20th in aces per set and 21st in attack percentage.
This award is just the latest postseason honor for Cao who earlier was named the 2010 Southern States Athletic Conference (SSAC) West Division Player of the Year. She also appeared on the rosters of this season’s All SSAC West Division, All SSAC, and All SSAC Tournament teams.
Cao was also a member of the 2010 SSAC Volleyball All Academic team.
As a team, the Badgers (27-5, 7-1 SSAC West) made a 19-win improvement over the 2009 season and finished as the SSAC West Division Regular Season Champion and the Runner-Up at the 2010 SSAC Volleyball Championship Tournament in Gulfport, Miss.
Spring Hill ended the 2010 season ranked in the Top 5 of several important categories in the NAIA. The Badgers were No. 1 in service aces per set with a 3.4 average and were No. 4 nationally in digs per set with a 21.5 average. They were ranked third in the NAIA in three categories: kills per set with a 19.5 average; assists per set with a 17.2 average; and blocks per set with a 3.0 average.
