Jim McGah

Jim McGah believed in living life to its fullest. Those who knew McGah may remember how involved he was at Spring Hill, how much he loved his fellow classmates, professors and alma mater.

McGah was SGA president his junior year, and under his leadership the yearbook returned (there wasn’t one the previous year), the “Skellar” operated with a profit (thanks to the management of Kevin Sweeney), and he made the most of the entertainment budget by lining up some nationally known acts.

Following graduation and a return to Illinois, McGah never missed an opportunity to visit campus when he was in the area – often stopping by to see his favorite professor, Dr. Alex Landi. His sister Mary McGah ’78 says he would often mention how lucky they were that their parents sent them to Spring Hill.

McGah passed away on Aug. 27, 2010. He left many friends, and it is their wish to create funded scholarships in McGah’s memory to assist current students with their tuition so they can have the same experience he did. Initial gifts totaling approximately $6,000 have already been received, and scholarship awards are scheduled to begin fall 2011.

Alumni and friends of Spring Hill College are invited to join in the celebration of McGah’s life by contributing to the James F. McGah ’79 Funded Scholarship. Checks should be made payable to Spring Hill College with a designation to the scholarship on the notation line and mailed to Spring Hill College, Office of Development, 4000 Dauphin Street, Mobile, AL 36608.
