Dr. Sharee Broussard receives PRCA Professional Achievement Award
MOBILE, Ala. – The Public Relations Council of Alabama (PRCA) awarded Dr. Sharee Broussard, assistant professor of communication arts at Spring Hill College, the Philip R. Forrest Professional Achievement Award. PRCA recognized Broussard at its annual state conference on April 17.
The award, named in honor of Phillip R. Forrest Jr., a 1942 alumnus of Spring Hill College, is the highest honor bestowed by the Public Relations Council of Alabama to a single practitioner. It is given to recognize individuals who are outstanding in the field of public relations.
A native of Louisiana, Broussard received her doctorate in mass communication with a minor in marketing from the University of Southern Mississippi in 2009. She completed her coursework while working full time as an instructor at Spring Hill College and part time as a community volunteer. In 2010 the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) selected her doctoral dissertation as the Outstanding Doctoral Dissertation winner.
Broussard is an accredited public relations practitioner who received her bachelor’s degree in public relations from the University of Louisiana Lafayette in 1990 and her master’s degree from USM in 1992. Primarily in higher education, her career also includes small business and corporate marketing communication management. She is the faculty adviser for the Public Relations Council of Alabama/Bay Area Advertising Federation student group, which earned key honors for Spring Hill College in 2008 as Outstanding Student Organization, Outstanding Student Organization President, and Outstanding Student Organization Member.
Broussard has received three U.S. President’s Council on Service and Civic Participation Volunteer Service Awards, the 2008 Public Relations Council of Alabama Educator of the Year (Mobile and statewide), USM School of Mass Communication & Journalism’s 2007 Top Graduate Student, 2007 Public Relations Council of Alabama-Mobile Chapter’s Practitioner of the Year, and 2007 PRCA-Mobile Diamond Award (Member of the Year honors).
Broussard is member and past president (1998) of the Public Relations Council of Alabama, Mobile Chapter. She has won multiple Medallion Awards, Awards of Excellence and one Merit Award. She received the statewide Chapter of the Year and Best of Show awards in the 1998 competition. Broussard has also received awards for her work from United Way of America and the (Mobile) Bay Area Advertising Federation.
