Spring Hill student group to visit Cuba in June
Mobile, Ala. -- Four Spring Hill College students will spend 18 days in Cuba learning about that country’s economy, education and tourism industry.
The students and their advisor, Spring Hill study abroad director Dr. Robert Harding, will join students from Indiana University for the trip that begins June 1. Harding is presently teaching a course on Cuba as part of the college’s first summer session of classes.
The group will spend six days in Havana. Highlights include a visit to a Cuban school, lecture from a University of Havana professor about the Cuban economy, Cuban dance lessons, meetings with neighborhood watch groups, and tours of Old Havana. One day will de devoted to learn about Cuba’s tourist economy.
Trip highlights also include visits to Cienfuegos, Trinidad, Santa Clara, Camagüey, Bayamo, and Santiago de Cuba. Highlights include visits to Bay of Pigs site, Mausoleums of Che Guevara and José Martí, and the Sierra Maestra Mountains (birthplace of the Cuban Revolution).
