MOBILE, Ala. – Five Spring Hill College students and two campus ministers traveled to the University of Missouri in Columbia, Mo., to participate in the Campus Ministry Leadership Institute, sponsored by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops.

The goal of the institute is to educate participants on the mission of Catholic ministry on college campuses while giving participants tools to plan a tangible project to bring back to their campus. The Spring Hill project team chose to work on a project that would combine service opportunities with justice education initiatives.

Some of the initiatives the team has planned include sponsoring a justice awareness program each month, environmental justice programming, and a Mission and Justice Week in the fall which will include a voter registration drive. Rev. Patrick Conroy, S.J., chaplain to the U.S. House of Representatives, will conclude the Mission and Justice Week by presiding at the student Sunday liturgy and present a lecture the following evening.

Campus minister Billy Kavula and two Spring Hill students served as part of the Institute’s planning team. Spring Hill College will host the Institute in July 2013.
