KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) has recognized six Spring Hill College athletic teams with its annual Scholar Team Award.

Recognized for their academic achievements during the 2011-12 school year, this year marks the fifth consecutive time that six or more of the 13 intercollegiate sports teams at Spring Hill have received the prestigious award.

Head coach Joe H. Williams’ women’s cross country team stood atop the Badgers’ academic standings with a combined team GPA of 3.31, marking the third time in four years that the women’s cross country squad has earned the school’s top ranking.

Other team qualifiers for the honor were volleyball with 3.28, women’s soccer at 3.25, softball at 3.20, women’s tennis with 3.09, and women’s golf at 3.02.

For a team to be considered for the NAIA Scholar Team Award, they must have a minimum 3.0 grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) as defined by the institution. The team grade point average must include all varsity athletes certified as eligible.
