Rev. R.V. Baylon to pronounce final vows Sept. 8 at Spring Hill College

Mobile, Ala. — Reverend R.V. Baylon, S.J., will be pronouncing his final vows as a Jesuit priest on Saturday, September 8, 2012 at an 11 a.m. Mass at St. Joseph Chapel on the Spring Hill College campus.  Very Rev. Mark Lewis, S.J., Provincial of the New Orleans Province of the Society of Jesus will be presiding.

Born in Manila, the Philippines, Baylon teaches bioethics in Spring Hill’s department of philosophy. He completed a Bachelor of Science in zoology in 1984 and a Doctor of Medicine in 1989 at the University of the Philippines, before studying cell and molecular biology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Baylon entered the New Orleans Province of the Society of Jesus in August 1994, and completed a master’s degree in health care ethics at Loyola University Chicago in 1999.

After teaching biology and chemistry at Strake Jesuit College Preparatory in Houston, Texas, he completed his theological studies at Weston Jesuit School of Theology in Cambridge, Mass., and was ordained to the priesthood in June 2005. Baylon came to Spring Hill shortly after his ordination, and has taught biology, philosophy and bioethics.
