Thibodeaux kicks off Christus series Oct. 25 with “God’s Voice Within: St. Ignatius and the Discernment of Spirits”
MOBILE, Ala. – Rev. Mark Thibodeaux, S.J., will present “God’s Voice Within: St. Ignatius and the Discernment of Spirits” Thursday, Oct. 25, 2012 at 7 p. m. in Byrne Memorial Hall on the Spring Hill College campus. This event kicks off the Christus Theological Institute’s 2012-2013 lecture series.
By observing his own life experience, Saint Ignatius of Loyola discovered the key to determining God’s will. In his “Rules for Discernment of Spirits,” he presented the ways in which one could determine the source of one’s desires, fears, repulsions and dreams. Thibodeaux will present an overview of Saint Ignatius’ method of discernment and will explain how we might use this method to determine God’s will in our own lives – both in the major decisions of our lives and in our everyday choices.
Thibodeaux is the director of novices for the New Orleans and Missouri Provinces of the Society of Jesus. Originally from Church Point, La., he has a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Loyola University New Orleans and has also served at Jesuit high schools in Dallas and Houston. His first book, “Armchair Mystic: Easing into Contemplative Prayer,” was described as “inspiring, practical, and quite funny…with appropriate tips, caveats, and anecdotes.” He has also published: “God, I Have Issues: 50 Ways to Pray No Matter How You Feel” and “God's Voice Within: The Ignatian Way to Discover God’s Will.”
Housed at Spring Hill College, the Christus Theological Institute is an ecumenical consortium of Mobile Bay area churches joined in the quest to promote a deeper understanding of our Christian faith.
The event is open to the public. Admission is free for Christus members and $2 for guests. For more information on this and upcoming Christus events, please contact the Theology Department at (251) 380-4458 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
