SHC community collects more than 3,000 shoes for Soles4Souls
Mobile, Ala. -- Spring Hill College students, faculty and staff members packed a truck load of 3,131 pairs of shoes for the "Soles4Souls" program on Friday afternoon. The shoes were taken to a collection center in Montgomery, Ala., and will be sent to needy children and families in various countries.
Spring Hill College senior Chelsea Audibert, an international studies and Hispanic studies major from Slidell, La., coordinated the project as part of her LEAP (Learning, Engagement, Awareness and Personal Growth) class in justice and sustainability, dubbed "Justonsibility: Where Justice and Responsibility Intersect."
Soles4Souls is a Nashville-based charity that collects shoes from the warehouses of footwear companies and the closets of people like you. The charity distributes these shoes to people in need, regardless of race, religion, class, or any other criteria. Since 2005, Soles4Souls has delivered more than 19 million pairs of new and gently worn shoes. The shoes have been distributed to people in more than 125 countries, including Kenya, Thailand, Nepal and the United States.
