Dr. Colette Windish to present Altmayer Lecture March 21
MOBILE, Ala. – Dr. Colette Windish, associate professor and chair of the Department of Languages, will present the Altmayer Lecture at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 21 in the LeBlanc Ballroom of the Spring Hill College student center.
Windish, the current Altmayer Chair, will present “Hide-and-seek in the Haunted House of History: Cultural Representations of World War II in French Fiction and Film.” This talk will examine representations of World War II and Vichy France in recent French fiction and film, looking in particular at the staging of feelings of national guilt and the relationship between fact and fiction.
Windish received a Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts in English from Université de Paris III, and a Master of Arts and Ph.D. in French from Princeton University.
Spring Hill College benefactor Nan Altmayer established the endowed chair in literature in 1999 to recognize someone who has fostered an understanding and appreciation of literature through teaching, scholarly contributions and his or her own creation of literary works.
