Five SHC golfers named Daktronics-NAIA Scholar Athletes
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) announced on Thursday morning that Spring Hill College women's golfer Katie Callahan and men’s golfers Rickie Lee, Daniel McCrea, Chris Cartmill and Nathan Ceille have been named 2013 Daktronics-NAIA Scholar Athletes.
Head coach Steve Hodges’ Badger team led all NAIA institutions with five individuals on this year’s list.
A junior from Prairie Village, Kan., Callahan is a biology major and three-year varsity starter for the Badgers. She has played in more than 20 events in three years at SHC.
Lee, a junior from Bayou LeBatre, Ala., majors in Finance and Economics and is a three-year member of the varsity squad.
McCrea is a junior from Belfast, Northern Ireland, who is a Pre-Law major with a minor in Business Administration. He is in his first season as a Badger.
Cartmill is a senior from Chesterfield, Mo., who majors in Biology. He is a four-year varsity player.
Ceille, a senior from Hales Corner, Wis., is a Marketing and Management major who appeared in over 20 events during his four-year career at SHC.
Since the award was introduced in 1979, a total of 160 SHC student-athletes have received Scholar Athlete recognition from the NAIA.
This year a total of 111 men’s golfers and 131 women’s golfers were named 2013 Daktronics-NAIA Scholar Athletes. Nominated by each institution's head coach, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale and have achieved junior academic status to qualify.
