SHC Softball Team Heads to Oklahoma City for National Tournament
The Spring Hill College softball team departed for Oklahoma City Friday afternoon from Murray Field. The ladies are ranked the No. 1 seed at the National Championship Tournament’s Opening Round and will face the No. 4 seeded Mid-America Nazarene University Pioneers (26-13). That game will be held in Ann Lacy Stadium in Oklahoma City Monday at 3 p.m.
The other participants at the Oklahoma City site will be the host and 2nd seeded Oklahoma City University Stars (49-11) and the 3rd seeded Kansas Wesleyan University Coyotes (38-7). The 16th-ranked Oklahoma City squad reached the tournament with an automatic bid after winning the Sooner Athletic Conference Tournament Championship while the 25th-ranked Kansas Wesleyan team was the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference Regular Season Champion.
Spring Hill came out of the losers’ bracket to win the Beaufort, S.C., Opening Round Tournament last season with a 4-1 record en route to a Runners-Up finish at the NAIA Final Site.
This year will mark the fifth trip to the NAIA National Tournament for the Badger softball team. Spring Hill holds an overall 10-8 record in the event with a 2nd place finish in 2013 and a 3rd place finish in 1999.
