Athlete-Scholars Shine at SHC
The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) has recognized a record 11 Spring Hill College athletic teams with its annual Scholar Team Award.
Recognized for their academic achievements during the 2013-14 academic year, 11 of the 15 eligible intercollegiate sports teams at Spring Hill received the prestigious award.
The combined SHC softball team GPA of 3.33 edged out women’s cross country’s 3.32 GPA for top honors. For the first time in six years, a team other than women’s cross country earned the school’s top academic standing.
Other team qualifiers for the honor were women’s golf at 3.27, volleyball at 3.25, men’s cross country at 3.24, women’s soccer at 3.20, men’s outdoor track & field at 3.13, men’s tennis at 3.09, women’s tennis with 3.07, men’s soccer at 3.06 and women’s outdoor track & field at 3.03.
For a team to be considered for the NAIA Scholar Team Award, they must have a minimum 3.0 grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) as defined by the institution. The team grade point average must include all varsity athletes certified as eligible.
