From the get go, Lenna Altamirano’s excitement about being a student at Spring Hill College was obvious. She serves as a class representative for the Student Government Association, participates in weekly Mass as a Eucharistic minister, leads campus tours as a Springhillian, tutors children at a local elementary school, and is a member of Delta Delta Delta sorority.
Originally a biology/pre-health major, Altamirano changed her major to nursing during her freshman year. She is contemplating pursuing a career as a traveling nurse for the first few years after graduation, and then settling in Mobile, New Orleans, or one of the other cities she visits.
“It’s amazing how science is involved in the simplest things in life,” she says of her fascination with the subject.
As a Springhillian, Altamirano gives campus tours to prospective students, allowing her to share her positive Spring Hill experience with visitors. So, what made Altamirano decide that Spring Hill College was the place for her? “I wanted to go to a small school because I wanted to be able to know my classmates and build a relationship with my professors,” she says. “It’s impressive to see how much the students get involved here and how they make time for all they do.”
A high-spirited student, Altamirano enjoys everything on campus and a variety of hobbies. Whether spending time with friends and family, shopping, going to the beach or traveling, Altamirano makes time for it all.
Student involvement, personal attention in the classroom and a small college atmosphere are all characteristics that Altamirano loves about Spring Hill College. However, what impresses her most are the friendships she has made.
"I think choosing SHC was one of the best decisions I ever made, because it's really like a home away from home," she says.
