Born in Mobile, Alabama , the fourth of nine children

High school and college education: St. Joseph Seminary in Covington, LA, and at Notre Dame Seminary in New Orleans

For two years a lay missionary in Merida, Yucatan, Mexico, helping a Maryknoll missionary in a Catholic school for boys

Three years in the US Army, learning Polish at the Defense Language Institute in Monterey, California, and serving at Fort Meade near Washington, D.C., and in a little Bavarian town near Nuremburg, Germany

For three years a sixth-grade teacher at Our Lady of Lourdes elementary school in Mobile

Married Dolores Busby on October 1, 1966. Three children: Andrew (b. 1967), Stephen (b. 1970), and Matthew (b. 1975)

Graduate study of Russian language and literature at the Monterey Institute of Foreign Studies and the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana

In the summer of 1970, while majoring in Russian and minoring in Polish, gave a course in English to some of the faculty of the Catholic University of Lublin in Poland

Ten years in the export business, working for two years in Thibodaux, Louisiana while living in Houma, and then at an export company in Mobile

Since 1984 a teacher of social justice, Scripture, human sexuality and marriage, sacraments, journalism, Latin, and Russian at McGill-Toolen Catholic High School

Since 1987 an adjunct instructor of Theology at Spring Hill College, teaching courses that include Peace and Justice Issues, Contemporary Moral Issues, Human Sexuality and Marriage, and Religion and Society
