Early Arrival/Late Stay Information

Early Arrival

The Office of Residence Life understands that there are some circumstances where it may become necessary for a student to arrive on campus before the residence halls officially open. The following reasons: Flights prior to the opening of the residence halls , scheduled vacations that interfere with move-in dates, work conflicts, I didn’t get a chance to pack, etc. are not reasons that will be accepted or approved. Requests for early arrivals may be granted on a case-by-case bases for extenuating circumstances. There is a fee of $50 per day for early arrival.

Fall Semester

Some students will be required due to campus employment, Badger Connection, or athletics to arrive on campus prior to the official opening of campus. These students do not need to submit an early arrival, this will be done by the student’s supervisor or athletic department.

The official opening of the residence halls and move-in dates for the 2016-2017 academic year are:

Upperclassmen Students: Saturday August 20th and Sunday August 21st

The following reasons: Flights prior to the opening of the residence halls, scheduled vacations that interfere with move-in dates, work conflicts, I didn’t get a chance to pack, etc. are not reasons that will be accepted or approved.

Early Arrival Requests will be accepted until Monday August 8, 2016. Please note that the submission of a request DOES NOT mean that you are approved to arrive early, an email notifying you of your request status will be sent to your student email.

Spring Semester

Students who are enrolled for spring semester are welcome to return upon the official opening of the residence halls. Students who are required to arrive to campus prior to the official opening of campus due to campus employment, Badger Connection V, or athletics do not need to submit an early arrival request.

The official opening of the residence halls for the Spring 2017 Semester is Saturday, January 7th 2017 at 12:00pm.

Early Arrival Requests for the spring semester will be made accepted during the preceding fall semester.

Late Stay Information

The Office of Residence Life understands that there are some circumstances where it may become necessary for a student to remain on campus past the residence halls officially closing. Requests for late stays may be granted on a case-by-case bases for extenuating circumstances.

Fall Semester

During Christmas Break, the campus closes and all students are required to leave campus within 24 hours of their last final or by 12:00pm on December 10, 2016. The Office of Residence Life encourages students to plan transportation needs well in advance to guarantee that all students are prepared to leave by the appropriate time.

The Office of Residence Life understands that there are some extenuating circumstances or employment obligations that may result in a student needing to remain on campus past the official closing of the residence halls. Students needed to remain on campus due to extenuating circumstances will need to submit a Late Stay Request. The following reasons: Flights after 12:00pm on December 10th , my parents can’t come until after the 10th, I have to work on Friday, I didn’t get a chance to pack, etc. are not reasons that will be accepted or approved. International students with limited flight availability are generally the reasons that are approved.

Late Stay Requests will be made available during the fall semester. If you need to submit a Late Stay Request for the fall semester due to extenuating circumstances, please fill out the following form:

Spring Semester

During Summer Break, the campus closes and all students are required completely move out of their residence halls within 24 hours of their last final or by 12:00pm on May 4, 2017 for all non-graduating students, and by 6:00 pm on May 6, 2016 for all graduating seniors. The Office of Residence Life encourages students to plan transportation needs well in advance to guarantee that all students are prepared to leave by the appropriate time.

The Office of Residence Life understands that there are some extenuating circumstances or employment obligations that may result in a student needing to remain on campus past the official closing of the residence halls. Students needed to remain on campus due to extenuating circumstances will need to submit a Late Stay Request.

The following reasons: Flights after May 4, 2017, my parents can’t come until after the 4th, I want to stay to watch my friends graduate, I have to work on Friday, I didn’t get a chance to pack, etc. are not reasons that will be accepted or approved. International students with limited flight availability, graduating seniors, students participating in commencement related exercises are generally the reasons that are approved.
