Brandon and Hafner named Emeriti faculty, Bracken retires

Two longtime faculty members were granted emeritus status at commencement in May. Dr. Melvin J. Brandon, after 41 years as a member of the philosophy department, and Dr. John H. Hafner, who has served 39 years on the English faculty, retire from Spring Hill College as professors emeriti.

Volunteer for Life

Aimée Maier’s Jesuit education instilled in her the importance of serving others through her vocation and volunteerism. Since graduating from Spring Hill in 1990, Maier joined the Jesuit Volunteer Corps, volunteered with the Peace Corps, worked in poor Haitian communities, and counseled high-risk youth and families as a social worker.

Commencement 2010: 'Little Pencils'

Mother Teresa once said, “I am a little pencil in the hand of a writing God who is sending a love letter to the world.”

As nearly 300 Spring Hill graduates took their seats on the Avenue of the Oaks, they found little pencils in their chairs. John S. Eads IV, founder of Light of the Village Ministry in Prichard, Ala., put them there to illustrate a point.

April showers welcome alumni back to campus

Even thunder, lightning and torrential downpours couldn’t dampen the excitement at the 2010 Homecoming on the Hill.

Student ambassadors welcomed alumni back to the Hill for a weekend that included tours of the new “green” Student Center, a lunch for graduating seniors with the class of 1960, and Saturday night’s Homecoming celebration with the Spring Hill College Jazz Band for entertainment.
