Mobile, Ala. — Earlier this week, the City of Mobile voted to allocate $750,000 in support of Spring Hill College’s development of the Health and Science Innovation Center. With Mobile County’s matching $750,000 contribution, the total funding commitment from both the city and county now stands at $1.5 million. This financial support aligns with the college’s and community’s shared goal of cultivating healthcare professionals to serve the region.
City of Mobile Mayor Sandy Stimpson emphasized the investment’s importance: “Our local hospitals are a critical piece of the community because they provide world-class healthcare to our citizens. However, they are also an essential tool for economic development. When large companies, particularly those in the industrial sector, consider investing in Mobile, the size, quality and capabilities of the local medical community are often a significant factor in their decision. These are just a few of the reasons why we are proud to support the growing nursing and health science programs at Spring Hill College. This investment will help educate the next generation of medical professionals and encourage them to stay in Mobile.”
The new 57,000 square foot Health and Science Innovation Center will replace the outdated Walsh Hall located in the heart of campus. Demolition is expected to begin this fall, with a groundbreaking ceremony planned for December.
