Spring Hill College students, faculty and staff return to campus after Tropical Storm Gordon
In order to help keep students, faculty and staff safe ahead of the possible effects of Tropical Storm
Gordon, Spring Hill College classes were canceled the afternoon of Tuesday, September 4 and the
morning of Wednesday, September 5. Routines have now returned to normal on campus.
Tropical Storm Gordon drenched the Gulf Coast area as it made landfall in the later hours of the night.
Thankfully, though the campus was soaked, it sustained no visible damage.
“We monitored the storm throughout the night to ensure the best possible measures were taken to
keep our students out of harm’s way,” said Kevin Abel, Vice President of Student Affairs.
And now that classes have resumed, those efforts to keep students, faculty and staff safe ahead of the
storm are important to acknowledge.
“Our students, staff, faculty, campus and buildings are safe, thanks to hard work from so many
here at the College; from operations personnel and public safety officers to Student Services
and Resident Advisors, many of whom worked all day and night,” said Dr. E. Joseph Lee, Interim
“It was proof that the Spring Hill College family is a caring, sharing, faithful and hardworking
campus community,” Lee concluded.
