Kathy Sheppard appointed Professor and Chairperson of the Division of Nursing

E. Joseph Lee II, PhD, President of Spring Hill College announced today the appointment of Kathy Sheppard, PhD, RN, to Professor and Chairperson of the Division of Nursing, beginning in July. Sheppard joins the Spring Hill College faculty after more than 30 years at the University of Mobile (UM), most recently serving there as Dean and Professor of Nursing.

“I am excited to join the faculty and team at Spring Hill and look forward to advancing the already highly successful Nursing program,” said Sheppard. “Faith-based education is incredibly important to me and the programs offered by the College are a true fit with my experience. I’m looking forward to welcoming our current and new students for fall 2019.”

Sheppard has an extensive career as a practitioner, professor and faculty leader. After receiving her Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from UM (then known as Mobile College), she went on to earn two master’s degrees as well as her PhD in Nursing from University of Alabama in Birmingham. She has practiced as Charge Nurse, Staff Nurse and Director of Nursing at Mobile-area hospitals and care centers since earning her BSN. At University of Mobile, in addition to Dean and Professor of Nursing, Sheppard served as Associate Dean, Program Director and as a Professor to undergraduate, graduate and doctoral students in the classroom and online.

“We are so pleased as a community to welcome Dr. Sheppard to The Hill,” said Lee. “In her more than 30-year tenure at UM, she developed new academic programs including an accelerated BSN, an Executive Leadership Master of Science in Nursing and Nurse Practitioner Doctor of Nursing Practice, to name a few.”

Sheppard co-authored “Poverty and Adolescent Mental Health,” for the Journal of Child and Adolescent Psychiatric Nursing in 2009. Her areas of specialization are Research, Theory, Administration, Growth and Development, Pediatrics and Obstetrics.
