Spring Hill College is a community built on care, connection, and responsibility. Our Alcohol & Other Drugs (AOD) program supports students in making safer choices, understanding risk, and knowing what to do in an emergency. We focus on practical education, harm reduction, and support without shame.

If you have questions or want to talk privately, we are here.

What We Offer

Education that is real and useful

We provide AOD education that goes beyond “don’t do it.” Students learn how alcohol and drugs impact the brain and body, how to reduce risk, and how to look out for friends.

Individual support and check-ins

If alcohol or drugs are affecting your life, relationships, grades, or mental health, you do not have to figure it out alone. We can meet with you to talk through what’s going on and help you decide next steps.

Conduct-related education

Some students are referred to AOD education through the student conduct process. Our approach is still supportive and skill-based. The goal is learning, reflection, and safer decision-making moving forward.

Prevention programming and events

Throughout the year, we offer outreach events, awareness campaigns, and skill-building programs that connect AOD education with wellness, mental health, stress, and belonging.

Safer Choices Start Here

Know your risk

Alcohol affects everyone differently. Tolerance is not the same as safety. Mixing substances increases risk. Drinking games and rapid drinking can lead to alcohol poisoning faster than people expect.

Watch out for your friends

If something feels “off,” trust that feeling. It is always okay to ask for help. You are not bothering anyone by taking safety seriously.

Plan ahead

Eat before drinking. Alternate water and alcohol. Set a limit before you start. Go out with people you trust. Keep your drink with you. Have a plan to get home safely.

Signs of Alcohol Poisoning and Overdose

Call for help right away if someone is:

  • Unconscious or cannot be awakened
  • Vomiting repeatedly or choking
  • Breathing slowly, irregularly, or not at all
  • Cold, pale, or bluish skin or lips
  • Confused, severely disoriented, or having seizures

When in doubt, call for help.

Support and Recovery

If you are thinking, “This might be becoming a problem,” that is reason enough to reach out. Whether you want to cut back, stop, or just talk through your relationship with alcohol or drugs, we can help.

We can also provide referrals to off-campus providers and community resources when needed.

Confidentiality and What to Expect

CWS services are confidential within the limits of the law and professional ethics. Seeking help does not go on your academic record, and counseling records are not part of your transcript.

If you are unsure whether your situation “counts” or if you are worried about getting in trouble, talk with us anyway. We will help you sort through options and support.
