Spring Hill College to Celebrate Class of 2026 During Commencement Ceremony

MOBILE, Ala. — Spring Hill College will celebrate the Class of 2026 during its commencement ceremony Saturday, May 9, at 9 a.m. in the Outlaw Recreation Center.

Approximately 200 undergraduate and graduate students are expected to participate in this year’s ceremony, representing a wide range of academic disciplines across the liberal arts, sciences, business, health professions, education, communication and other fields of study.

The college will welcome Dr. Jenny Hofmeister as the 2026 commencement speaker. Hofmeister is a marine biologist, researcher and conservation leader whose work focuses on marine ecosystems, sustainable fisheries, endangered species restoration and octopus behavior research.

Hofmeister’s work has helped advance scientific understanding and ocean conservation efforts around the world. She was also featured as an expert in the 2025 Amazon Prime documentary series Octopus!, narrated by Phoebe Waller-Bridge. Her passion for science, curiosity for the natural world and commitment to environmental stewardship make her an inspiring voice for graduates preparing to make their own impact across industries and communities.

“Spring Hill College is honored to welcome Dr. Hofmeister to campus as we celebrate the achievements of the Class of 2026,” said Dr. Mary Van Brunt, president of Spring Hill College. “Her dedication to discovery, innovation and service reflects many of the values we hope to instill in our graduates as they begin their next chapter.”

Due to weather, commencement will take place in the Arthur R. Outlaw Recreation Center instead of the traditional Avenue of the Oaks on Spring Hill College’s campus.
