Spring Hill College President Honored with Award from Boy Scouts of America

Mobile, Ala.— Spring Hill College is excited to announce that Dr. Mary H. Van Brunt, President of Spring Hill College, has been honored with the Fretwell Education Award by the Mobile Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America (BSA). The award was presented during a special ceremony on Thursday, recognizing Dr. Van Brunt and fellow college presidents for their exceptional contributions to education and youth development.

The Fretwell Education Award, established in 2016, honors outstanding educators— including teachers, coaches, administrators and support staff— who exemplify dedication to advancing education and youth development. Named for Dr. Elbert K. Fretwell, an esteemed educator and the second Chief Scout Executive of the Boy Scouts of America, it recognizes individuals who support the mission of the BSA: “to prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Law.”

The presentation of this award reflects Dr. Van Brunt’s ongoing commitment to empowering students, building community partnerships and supporting programs that inspire character, leadership and ethical development in young people.
