(Mobile, Ala.) – Following an extensive nationwide search, Spring Hill College has named Rebecca Cantor, Ph.D. as its new Provost.
Cantor comes to the College from the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) in Savannah, Ga., and her experience includes serving as a department chair, professor of English and Assistant Provost. She brings key leadership experience in managing and maintaining the integrity of an institutional curriculum while overseeing a portfolio of budget, communication and accreditation projects.

She is highly qualified and experienced in student-centered academics and familiar with our Jesuit traditions,” said Spring Hill College President E. Joseph Lee, Ph.D. “We are confident that we made the best choice in one who understands our academic goals, curriculum-based instruction and data-driven decision making.”
As Provost, Cantor will serve as the Chief Academic Officer. Cantor will be responsible for all academic functions of the College in accordance with its Jesuit heritage and mission. She will provide leadership, direction and coordination in the areas of academic affairs and academic support to maintain and enhance the quality and integrity of all academic programs. This includes traditional and online programs at both the graduate and undergraduate levels. Additionally, she will be responsible for ensuring compliance with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) and discipline-specific accreditation, as well as developing a culture of continuous program evaluation, innovation and development.

Cantor earned a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature from Fairfield University in Fairfield, Conn., a Master of Arts in English from Loyola Marymount in Los Angeles, Calif., and a Ph.D. in English from Claremont Graduate University in Claremont, Calif. She has authored two books and published several journal articles.
She will assume her post on July 1, 2022. Lisa Hager, Ph.D. will serve as Associate Provost, having served as Interim Provost since September 2020.
