Program Overview

Study Shakespeare. Analyze Austen. Peruse Poe.

English majors become experts in language: using it, interpreting it, and enjoying it. Through reading, they encounter powerful ideas and memorable characters in a wide range of cultures. They build interpretation skills that they use to read the world we live in, not just books. And as writers, they are constantly learning to shape ideas, use words precisely, grow in creativity and imagination, and make an impact on others.

English majors don’t just become teachers or lawyers; they also work for publishers, tech companies, and nonprofits. They may create content for websites, fundraising campaigns, or grant applications. Our English majors have gone on to graduate studies in library science, technical writing, education, and law.
