Each of the residence halls/apartments is fully air-conditioned and equipped with a laundry facility. Rooms are furnished with an extra long twin bed, dresser, desk (or dresser/desk combination) and chair for each person. The Fairway Apartments, which have full beds, are the exception. Each room is equipped with a private phone number, voicemail and Ethernet. All residence halls are smoke free!
Residents are encouraged to furnish their rooms to reflect personal tastes. You and your roommate may wish to plan your room décor together after you arrive on campus. You should observe the regulations in the Student Handbook concerning permissible room furnishings and consult the residence hall staff if you have any questions.
Opened in 2003, Viragh Hall is named in honor of Albert “Skip” Viragh, 1964. The majority of Viragh housing consists of “pod living” where 12 students live together in double-occupancy rooms with a common living area and two common bathrooms.
Common living areas are furnished with comfortable lounge furniture and have a cable TV jack. Viragh Hall has a laundry room and large multipurpose room with a HDTV, kitchen, and ping-pong table on the first floor, a kitchen and gathering space on the second floor, and a large study room on the third floor. Viragh Hall shares a courtyard featuring a water fountain and sitting area with Skip’s Place.
Toolen Hall houses 98 freshmen and is named in honor of Bishop Thomas Toolen, who served as Bishop of Mobile from 1927 to 1969. Each double-occupancy room is approximately 16’ x 15’6’‘. Toolen features a large community lounge with wireless internet access, vending, a pool table, ping-pong, and HDTV on the 1st floor plus two additional study lounges.
Walsh Hall is named in honor of Fr. Joseph M. Walsh, S.J., President of Spring Hill College from 1925-1931. Walsh Hall houses 166 freshmen in two buildings connected by a covered breezeway. Each double occupancy room is 16’6’‘ x 10’. Rooms are furnished with an extra long twin bed, dresser, closet, desk and chair for each person. Walsh Hall is adjacent to the campus mailroom and features a community gathering space with vending, foosball, and HDTV.
Renovated in 2007, Mobile houses 94 male and female students and offers unique features such as the original hardwood floors and private bathrooms in each room. Each room is approximately 12’8’‘ x 11’4’‘, and all rooms are single occupancy. A study room is located on the second floor.
O’Leary houses approximately 70 male and female students. Rooms are both single and double occupancy with common bathroom facilities. Double rooms measure 23’ x 11’ and single room dimensions are 12’ x 11’. There are small sitting areas on each floor and a television lounge on the first floor lobby.
Opened in 2005, New Hall houses 222 residents, arranged in a mix of single and double rooms, separated by a bath between each pair. The hall is three stories high on the west side and four stories high on the east side. Other features include a laundry facility, a piano, and multiple common spaces.
Opened in 2007, Skip’s Place houses 139 residents in double and single rooms. The residence hall features a pod-style living arrangement, with six to seven residents living in each pod. The Viragh Complex features study areas, classroom, laundry facilities, meeting rooms and various common areas. The interior is beautifully decorated, and each floor has its own color and furniture scheme. The spacious exterior of the Viragh Complex features a welcoming water fountain, courtyard and stone sitting area.
Fairway apartments are for upper-class students. Each of the three buildings houses 48 students in 12 apartments. Each apartment features four bedrooms, two full bathrooms, a furnished kitchen, washer and dryer and a large/living dining area. Each apartment is semi-furnished with extra long single beds, desks, chairs and dressers in the bedrooms and couches and chairs in the living dining area. Bedrooms are single occupancy and measure 10’ x 11’.
Opened in 2015, Portier Place offers apartment style living for 70 residents. The residence hall features a variety of apartment configurations and each apartment is semi-furnished with extra-long twin beds and dressers in the bedrooms, couches and chairs in the living room, and a dining table and chairs. The residence hall has several study spaces, work out facilities, and laundry facilities.
